Web Survey Bibliography
Confidentiality or privacy assurances may affect the answer tendencies in online surveys. In addition to direct effects e. g. on sensitive demographic variables, effects have been found on psychological constructs such as social desirability. The current study explores whether frequently assessed psychological constructs such as measures of personality (big 5) and emotional intelligence are also affected and whether these effects may be controlled by assessing social desirability. In the mixed experimental design the presentation of the privacy assurance (no assurance, detailed assurances as part of the instructions, detailed assurances instructions that are presented as an optional link) is manipulated. Personality and emotional intelligence are assessed between subjects while social desirability and demographic information are assessed within subjects. Personality is assessed with a self-report questionnaire (NEO-FFI). Emotional intelligence is assessed with a performance measure (TEMINT). Following a treatment check participants receive an individualized feedback.
